  • General Course Questions
    How do I enroll in a course?
    Click the login button in the upper-right corner and enter your email and password to login. If you need to create an account, you'll find a link under the login form that you can use to do so.
    How to I start a course?
    Once you've logged in, you'll find a list of courses to choose from. Currently we have one course entitled "Who Is Jesus?" available under the Christian Ministries category. Just navigate to the course and click the Enroll button to begin the course. New courses will be added in the coming weeks and months.
    What kind of courses are these?
    "Who Is Jesus?" and other initial courses are designed to be self-contained, self-paced short courses geared toward the independent learner.
    Can I take these courses for credit?
    The initial Luxvera® courses are not credit bearing; they're intended for personal and professional development. However, individuals who finish courses with distinction will be eligible for a non-credit bearing Certificate of Completion from Regent University in the future. The strategy for distinction determination and mechanism to request a Certificate of Completion will be communicated when this functionality is available on the site.
    Do I need any special technology to participate in a course?
    No, these courses work on a variety of platforms including desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. They work in a web-browser and so don't require any additional technology.
  • Course Content Questions
    How are these courses organized?
    The initial courses are divided into four units. Each unit is then divided into multiple sections that contain video and textual content, along with quizzes and other reflective activities. Most of the content is presented in shorter chunks or modules interspersed with reflective activities in order to promote engagement rather than mere consumption of content. The units appear on the main course page, the sections are listed along the bottom in the graphical course milestone map.
    How do I navigate the course?
    After enrolling in the course, you'll be taken to a course introduction page which provides an overview of the course and the opportunity to begin taking the course. At any point, you can jump to a different section of the course by clicking one of the units listed on the main course page or by clicking on one of the graphical boxes found at the bottom of selected content screens. Since the course has a set order, you'll always be presented with a continue button that will automatically take you to the next part of the course sequence.
    What are the boxes at the bottom of the screen?
    As you navigate through the course, you'll see a course milestone map at the bottom of the screen. This map shows the different sections within each unit. The section you're currently on is highlighted in blue while sections that you've already completed have a green check beside the title. If you click on any milestone box, you'll jump to that section of the course.
    Do I have to go through the course in order?
    No, although there's a planned arc to the course and you'll find that it works better if you take the journey in order.
    Do I have to complete the course in one sitting?
    You can take as much time as you want with the course in as many different sessions as you wish. Whenever you return to the course site, you'll have the option to resume the course wherever you left off.
    How do I know how much of the course I've completed?
    The main course page lists the four units along the left-hand side and places a check next to any unit that you've completed. Additionally, the milestone map at the bottom shows progress on individual sections within each unit
    Do I have to take the quizzes?
    No, although the quizzes serve as a valuable opportunity to double-check your mastery of the material. They help to ensure that you're actually learning the material and not just viewing it. To be eligible for a Certificate of Completion, you must take all quizzes and score 100% accuracy.
    Do I have to do the Bible reading or writing activities?
    As these courses are voluntary and not for-credit, you aren't obligated to any particular task; however, the various activities have been designed to promote mastery of content and personal transformation. For example, if you're asked to read particular Scriptures and make note of your findings, that's because the faculty deemed that a learning activity that was worthy of your time and effort.
    Can I ask questions of the instructor?
    You're welcome to post questions about the course content or logistical issues to the discussion board. The discussion board is monitored but there's no guarantee that all questions will be answered.
    Where do I go if I have problems with the course?
    Please post any problems to the discussion board.
    What if I want to go into more depth on a topic?
    By all means, do so! These short courses are a starting point for learning and not intended to be encyclopedic presentations.
  • Video Questions
    How do I watch a video?
    Video content is presented full-screen; just click the play button in the center of the image to begin streaming the video.
    Can I start or stop the video?
    Yes, in the upper-left corner of the video, you'll find a progress bar. While the video is playing, you can click anywhere in that bar to jump to a different point in the video to review a section or skip ahead.
    How do I exit the video?
    When the video is completed, you'll be presented with buttons to enable you to replay the video, continue to the quiz or next section of the material, or exit the unit. Additionally, there's an "X" in the upper-left corner on the video next to the progress bar that you can use to return to the main course page.
    What are the system requirements for the video?

    1. Note that only the client versions of Windows are officially supported, and an error is known to occur when a player loads in Internet Explorer 9 on Windows Servers 2008.

    2. Video Cloud only supports the default browser on the device (IE10) in the Windows 8 Modern UI.

    Mobile requirements:

    iOS and Android devices are supported. If you are using Android device you are not required to have Flash Player installed.

  • Quiz Questions
    Can I retake a quiz?
    Yes, you're welcome to retake quizzes as often as you like.
    Can I re-watch a video before I retake the quiz?
    Yes, you can revisit any part of the course (video, text, etc.) before retaking a quiz. The purpose of the quizzes is to serve as a check on learning, so if you get items wrong, we encourage you to revisit the course content until you master the material.
    Are my quiz scores recorded?
    Yes. Your performance record is stored within Luxvera® and your quiz scores are stored and visible for your review in My Enrolled Courses within your user dashboard.
  • Discussion Board Questions
    How do I post a new message?
    You can click on the Create Thread button to create a new topic in the discussion board.
    What kinds of messages can I post?
    You can post content or logistical messages to the discussion board. The discussion board is monitored but there's no guarantee that all questions will be answered.
    How do I reply to an existing message?
    After reading the message, you'll see the option to Answer or Reply to the message; just click that button and post your response.
    What do the number of votes mean?
    You have the option of voting messages up or down. If you think that a message is particular important or helpful, vote it up; if you think that it's less so, you can choose to vote it down. These votes will help make it easier to quickly locate the most important messages.
    What are the numbers and arrows to the left of a discussion thread?
    The number represents the voting score of any particular message while the arrows enable you to vote a message up or down. Clicking on the up arrow increments the number of votes by one while clicking on the down arrow subtracts one from the vote total.
    What does the report button do?
    If there's a message that violates decorum, please click on the report button to let us know.
  • User Dashboard
    How do I access the user dashboard?
    Click on your name in the upper-right and you'll be taken to the user dashboard.
    Can I upload a picture to replace the generic avatar?
    We encourage you to do so. If you click on your name in the upper-right and then select Edit Profile, you can upload a profile picture that will appear throughout your participation in the course.
    Can I see what I've completed?
    Within the user dashboard you can view all of your enrolled courses as well as your quiz performance within each course. Any GREAT Talks® that you've viewed are listed here as well. When you've successfully finished a course, you'll see it listed in the completed courses area.
    How do I change my password?
    Go to the user dashboard, select edit profile, and you'll see the option to change your password.
    How do I log out of Luxvera®?
    Go to the user dashboard and click logout.
    What's the leaf in the upper-right corner?
    Clicking on the leaf will take you to a branch of the Luxvera® knowledge tree where you can see the courses and GREAT Talks® currently available.

    What is LUXVERA®?
    LUXVERA® is an exclusive, proprietary MOOC learning platform. This allows us to provide transformational education through a user-friendly, engaging design and exceptional content. LUXVERA® strives to bring the light of wisdom to the fingertips of every person.
    What is a MOOC?
    A MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is a college class that anyone can take online for free without being admitted to a university. Being open means anyone can participate, and online allows students to take a course from nearly anywhere for free or at a minimal cost.
    What is a LUXVERA® course like?
    LUXVERA® courses have rolling and open enrollment and can be completed at your own pace. These highly interactive courses are video driven, with talks from instructors and industry experts, and may also include projects, quizzes and exams. You can watch the videos and take the quizzes as many times as you like without penalties; they are learning tools. No textbooks are necessary. A course forum will provide an instant way for you to ask questions of your peer community. Staff members will also monitor the forums to answer questions.
    Who teaches LUXVERA® courses?
    Courses are taught by a combination of Regent University professors, experts and practitioners from the American Center for Law and Justice and the Christian Broadcasting Network, and other leading experts.

  • Registration Questions
    How do I register with LUXVERA®?
    Click on the Login button in the upper-right corner of the screen. Under the login form you'll see a link that reads "Create an account." Click on that link and fill out the registration form to create your account. You'll receive a confirmation email with a link that you'll need to click in order to verify your registration.
    Are there registration restrictions for age or education level?
    Registration and participation is open to those individuals over 13 years of age. Beyond these terms, LUXVERA® is open to people of all education levels and backgrounds. Read terms & conditions and privacy policy.
    What if I don't receive the confirmation email?
    Please check your spam folder to ensure that it didn't end up there. If you still cannot locate your confirmation email, please click the "Forgot password" link on the login page and enter your email. You'll be sent a new message to assist you with your registration?
    How do I sign up for courses?
    Once you have a LUXVERA® account, you can sign up for any of the available courses or watch any of the GREAT Talks®. To enroll in a course, navigate to the course page and click the orange "Enroll Now" button in the upper left part of the page. To view a GREAT Talk®, just click the "Go" button under that particular talk.
    How much will this cost?
    All of our courses are free. In the future, students will have the opportunity to earn certificates or academic credit which will have additional activities and fees associated with those experiences. Even then, the core educational content will remain free and open.
